About KampTrail

KampTrail is owned and operated by Adirondack Mfg Corp. We provide a free camping and trip-planning tool for exploring free and paid campsites, public-land information and possible stops. No account is required to use the map.

KampTrail brings together agency records, open map data and moderated visitor contributions. We are not a land-management agency, campground operator, booking service or emergency service. A listing is a starting point for checking a trip, not a guarantee of access or safe passage. Read our Safety Disclaimer.

For questions about KampTrail, privacy requests or corrections, contact Adirondack Mfg Corp through our contact form or chuck@boondockorbust.com. The contact form is on a separate website and is subject to that site’s privacy practices.

Privacy Policy

Effective November 5, 2026 · Version 2026-11-05

This policy describes information handled through KampTrail at kamptrail.com, including its installed web app. “We” refers to Adirondack Mfg Corp, the owner and operator.

Information stored on your device

Your browser stores saved stops, notes, trip dates and routes, map position, filters, language, vehicle-profile details and downloaded map areas. It also caches app files and some listing data for offline use. Private codes for managing your submissions may be stored locally. These features do not create an account or automatically synchronize between devices.

The safety acknowledgement stores the terms version and acceptance time on your device. It is not sent to our server by the acknowledgement feature. If storage is blocked, acknowledgement can apply only for the current page session, with an explicit notice. Clearing site data removes local preferences, saved content and management codes; it does not automatically remove submissions already sent to us. Export important trips before clearing data.

Location and service requests

“Near me” requests your location through your browser’s permission prompt. You can decline or revoke that permission in browser settings. Search and map navigation can be used without granting device-location access. Searching the built-in place list does not send every keystroke to an external geocoder.

Using location-related features can send coordinates or viewed areas off your device. Map requests reveal the areas you view; weather and land lookups send selected locations. Route calculation sends chosen stop coordinates to KampTrail and its routing provider. These requests are needed to return the requested results.

Services used by KampTrail features
Maps and landOpenStreetMap, USGS and BLM services receive requests for viewed map tiles or selected locations.
RoutesKampTrail’s server forwards selected stop coordinates to the FOSSGIS OpenStreetMap routing service. Route results can be cached on your device.
Weather and conditionsNWS/weather.gov, NOAA and wildfire or other agency services receive relevant point or area requests, directly or through KampTrail. Server-side results may be cached.
External directions and videosOpening external directions sends the destination through that link. YouTube embeds load after you select Play and can collect information under YouTube’s policies. External websites have their own privacy practices.

Providers contacted directly by your browser receive normal connection information such as your IP address, request details and browser information. Service providers’ own terms and privacy policies apply to their processing. KampTrail is hosted by Hostinger, which may process ordinary connection and request logs to provide and protect the service.

Private feedback and corrections

When you submit a bug report, feature suggestion or correction, we receive what you submit, an optional email address, relevant listing or location information when included, and submission timestamps and status. General bug reports and feature suggestions are reviewed privately. Email is used for follow-up about your submission, not as a marketing subscription. Email notifications to our moderation contact contain report metadata and a dashboard link, not the report body or your submitted email address.

Optional diagnostics for general feedback include the app version, interface language, browser family, window dimensions and online/offline status. That diagnostics option does not attach your GPS location, saved stops or browsing history. Information you type into the report itself is still included; do not send passwords or sensitive personal information.

Public contributions

Reviews, approved photos or video links, campsite corrections and overnight-permission reports are intended to help other visitors. Depending on the contribution, published information can include your chosen display name, review or report text, rating, visit date, vehicle details, place or coordinates, and any authority role or office you provide. Moderators can review pending submissions. Do not post information you want kept private.

Uploaded photos are resized and re-encoded before storage, removing original embedded metadata. Visible faces, vehicle plates, signs or other identifying details in the image can remain. Private management codes let you access available editing, deletion or report-status controls; keep them private.

Operation, security and sharing

We use submitted information to operate features, moderate content, respond to reports and help prevent abuse. Application abuse controls store timestamps and salted hashes derived from IP addresses. This does not mean that hosting or other service logs never contain an IP address. Authorized moderators and hosting, email and feature-service providers process information as needed for these purposes. We may disclose information when required by law or to address security and abuse.

KampTrail does not use analytics for advertising personalization. Third-party services, external links and videos can have different practices. Agreeing to the safety terms does not authorize optional analytics or grant browser location permission.

Optional beta analytics

You can allow Google Analytics to help us understand use of KampTrail’s public beta. This choice is optional. Until you allow it, KampTrail does not load its Google analytics tag or send beta analytics events. Declining does not affect the map, saved stops or other core features. Use Optional analytics settings at any time to allow, decline, change or revoke your choice.

When allowed, beta measurement records the canonical page, referring Boondock or Bust article path when recognized, map mode and actions such as searching, viewing a marker, saving a stop, opening installation, installing the app, returning and submitting feedback. The analytics event payload excludes your search text, precise coordinates, trip notes, saved-stop identifiers, feedback text and submitted email address. URLs sent as analytics page fields omit query strings and fragments. Google still receives technical connection information, such as IP address and browser information, when your browser contacts its service. See Google’s privacy policy.

Analytics uses first-party cookies with the prefix ktbeta to associate allowed activity across visits. These cookies last up to 60 days and their expiry is not renewed on each visit. Google signals, user-provided data and advertising personalization are disabled for this beta property. Its user-level and event-level data retention setting is two months; that setting does not limit every aggregate report.

Your versioned analytics choice is stored locally for up to 180 days in this browser. It is separate from your safety acknowledgement and location permission. Boondock or Bust asks separately for optional KampTrail beta measurement on its own site. Recognized article links provide referral context; a link alone does not establish that the same person or session was measured on both sites.

Revoking or declining stops future KampTrail beta measurement on that page and clears its analytics cookies. It does not erase information already sent to Google. Other open pages receive the changed choice when browser storage permits. Clearing this site’s browser data also removes the saved choice. For privacy requests about previously collected information, contact us using the address above.

Retention and your choices

Local data remains until you remove it, the app replaces it, or your browser removes it. Submitted records and related moderation data are stored on our server; there is no single automatic deletion period for all submission types. Service logs, cached results and backups can have different lifetimes. A removed public item or deleted local copy may still exist in moderation records or backups.

Children, security and updates

KampTrail is intended for general trip planning and is not directed to children under 13. Do not submit a child’s personal information. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and address it.

No system can guarantee absolute security. Keep private management codes and exported trip files secure. We will update this page when practices change and show the effective date. Material changes to the safety acknowledgement terms will require a new acknowledgement in the protected flows.
